Configuration Dance Theatre & School of Ballet is delighted to present one of the world’s most beloved ballets, The Nutcracker! This unique production opens with the main character Clara, now in her eighties, telling the story of one extraordinary Christmas Eve some seventy years earlier. Then, going back in time, the stage lights up, and the magic begins at a Christmas party in Clara’s home when she was a young child. Some of the city’s most celebrated citizens of that time are present, and the house, now wired for electricity, displays a Christmas tree decorated for the first time with electric Christmas tree lights. In the second act, Clara meets the Sugar Plum Fairy before she sets off to a magical world of culture and dance while visiting exciting lands across the globe.

The beauty of The Nutcracker is in its ability to be told in various settings and from different perspectives while remaining true to its structure and musical form. Although set in Buffalo, New York (renowned City of Light) during the year of the Pan American Exposition of 1901, the story remains true to its ballet tradition and Tchaikovsky’s beloved score. This colorful, child-friendly performance will delight audiences of all ages as they take a trip back to an enchanted era when electric light illuminated the imaginations of young and old.

Featuring principal dancers, guest artists, Configuration School of Ballet students, and dance students from area studios, the production is great opportunity to connect to Buffalo’s heritage while enjoying a festive dance performance! What better way to celebrate the holidays than through the magical story of The Nutcracker in the City of Light?
